Doctor McDreamy

Blair suggested that I came back to the hospital because I'm looking for my own McDreamy. Sigh, I wish that was the only reason I'm here! I experienced another day of nausea and back pain, but today I got two massages - one from the massage therapist and another from my night nurse. I really, really, really needed it. I think all this lying and sitting around has made my back really tight. I've been taking oxycodone for the back pain and they increased my dosage to 10mg from 5mg and that seems to be helping and I've started taking walks around the hallway and doing some physical therapy exercises that I learned when I did hurt my back several years ago. I'm trying not to rely on the oxycodone, but it really helps. I just don't want to be like Rush Limbaugh and become an addict!

My Irish Team comes by to visit me every day (usually when I'm in the bathroom-how embarrassing to walk out of the bathroom to find 12 doctors standing around waiting for you) and they said today that I probably won't be home now until Friday or Saturday because my white counts are still low and I'm still running a fever. I am anxious to be home, despite the numerous doctors and nurses who fetch me juice, water, or Gatorade. I won't miss the daily blood draws, though. :-)

The nurses continue to weigh me every few days and I've lost about 5 pounds since my previous hospital stay (down a total of 14 pounds since January or February). I've been trying to eat here, but I'm just not hungry and nothing tastes good. I had chicken noodle soup for lunch yesterday, which I promptly threw up. I've been reduced to eating ice cream milk shakes and italian ices. I manage to eat my fruit loops for breakfast just fine, but any meal after that does not sit well with my stomach. I hope I can eat something tomorrow as I can't stand to lose another pound.

Now I understand! It's not the search for McDreamy, it's the massages! Or rather, it's the massages and the search for McDreamy. (The "numerous doctors and nurses" fetching you drinks is doubtless a nice plus.) I knew you were up to something! :-)

(If I were you though, I'd take a pass on having the Irish Team waiting when you come out of the bathroom.)

I have several, no, many MANY pounds I would be happy to donate to the cause. Where do I send them?

Angela,

You know that you can always have any of my pounds!

As for the search for your own McDreamy - I thought you had already found him! Or was that a different wedding where I was wearing a turquoise dress?

OK, so Angela needs fattening foods she can keep down and some cheer. Mike, what do you need? Are you still staying overnight in the hospital with Anegla or are you getting actual sleep at home?

Knowing Angela it's the massages. I knew should have taken massage school years ago!

I'm going to send some pounds too! I don't want to be left out of the sharing extra lbs.

Michael let me know when you need to be at two places at once and I'll just barrow your volleyball shoes and go as you. That's how you play so well right? With the shoes I mean?

Take care you two! We're thinking about both of ya's!

McDreamy update - McDreamy has been found! Apparently Angela was groggy when leaving her last post. McDreamy is actually Mike Dreamy. He was out of the room for a minute when the groggy Angela was asking for him.

Note: the massages are still from the NIH staff.

I am a little far away to send baked goods, but I possess the best cinammon-oatmeal-chocolate chip cookie recipe on the planet. If anyone wants to try a hand at fattening up our Miss Angela, I can post it.

Post away, Gila! I've been waiting for an opportunity to cook or even bake something for them. This just might be the ticket!

Of course, I'll have to sample a few before I give them over to make sure I made them correctly . . . ;-)

Okay--the better to fatten you up my pretty!

Spicy oatmeal chocolate chip cookes a'la Gila

4 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 cups shortening (or 1 cup shortening and 1 cup butter flavored margerine)
2 cups granualated sugar
2 cups brown sugar
4 eggs
3 cups quick cooking rolled oats
2-3 tsp vanilla extract
18 ounces (3 cups) semisweet chocolate chips
1 tbsp cinnamon
2-3 shakes each ground nutmeg and cloves
couple pinches Hael (middle eastern spice they put in coffee. If you have it great. If not, cookies are just fine without.)

Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and spices and set aside.

Combine the shortening and sugars and cream well. Beat in eggs until thoroughly blended. Stir in dry ingredients and mix well. Add oats, vanilla and chocolate chips.

You can mix in additional flour here. More flour makes a slightly lighter cookie.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a greased baking sheets. Bake for 350F for about 12 minutes or until golden brown.

This recipe makes approximately 8 million cookies. Feel free to chop it in half. Alternatively, you can freeze half the dough, which is what I do. My intention is to save it for the next time I get invited for a meal, but generally what happens is my friend Kayla comes, goes to freezer and just starts chomping down.

Enjoy! Tell me how it turns out.

Oh--sorry--have to rename the recipe. From now on, they are Gila Chocolate Monsters. :)
